When we started CoWorking News in German June 2009, we had no idea how fast things would develop. I just had a look at our Twitter account, where you can get a quick overview of 295 of our 300 articles. To find all articles, you can use our “multi-dimensional” search function on the top of the page, or you can go directly to our archive (on the bottom right of the page). We are constantly adding new features for you. Building on the German Coworking Directory (Start: May 2009), we developed the Coworking Starter in August 2010. Coworking Starter is a directory for people to join forces to start a coworking space in their community. In support of Coworking Europe, we launched “CoWorking News International” and the “European CoWorking Directory” in English, in November 2010. In January 2011, we initiated the “CoWorking Calendar“. Please give us feedback and tell us of new features you would like to see.

On Friday we wondered how social networks could improve coworking. One of these networks we look at today is Meetup. We found 82 coworking groups there, with nearly 100 cities across the US, Europe, Asia etc. on a waiting list. In contrast, coworking offers on dedicated coworking sites in the same period of time seem to have attracted  more coworkers and produced considerably more coworking offers than Meetup. For the US we find about 250 coworking spaces in the coworking registry. In Europe the “European CoWorking Directory” lists about 150 entries. (To date we do not know of any platforms dedicated to gathering coworking  data for Asia, South America, Australia and Africa. If you know any, please let us know.) Adding up the known coworking offers on the dedicated coworking platforms in the US and Europe we get about 400 coworking spaces in total which is five times as much as on Meetup. We are curious whether this ratio of  about 1 to 5 as an indicator for the influence of one social network on global coworking activity will stay the same in the course of the next year. With the start of 2011, we like to offer you an additional service: The “CoWorking Calendar”. Building on our existing service of the “European CoWorking Directory” and the “CoWorking-Starter List” (Coworking spaces in process of planning), we advance another step. Today, with the “CoWorking Calendar for January 2011” we present international up to date information not only about new coworking spaces opening, but also about events that are relevant to coworkers and the coworking movement in general. We list events that take place in coworking spaces but also outside. While we try to gather as much relevant news and background information for you about coworking as we can, we also depend on your contributions. With our update of the “European CoWorking Directory” on the 21st of December 2010, we are happy to list 5 new entries:  Czech Republic (Brno), Estonia (Tallinn), France (Belfort), Germany (Berlin (Wostel)) and Italy (Rome).
