“Free Coworking” starts with “Open International CoWorking Calendar”

After setting up a Facebook Group for “Free Coworking” and formulating some initial thoughts, it is time to promote actual “Free Coworking” offers. The “Open International CoWorking Calendar“, that is now operating for a year, seems to me a very good tool to support this start. Based on the Google Calendar it is easy to import and export Coworking Events across all time zones. As I believe many coworking space managers will start to offer “Free Coworking” alongside “Paid Coworking” the Calendar is an ideal tool to communicate the times and dates when and where “Free Coworking” is available. Alongside the Facebook Group, the Calendar will be extremely beneficial to highlight and develop “Free Coworking”.

The use of the “Open International CoWorking Calendar” will be free of charge from today onwards and will remain that way to support “Free Coworking” and Coworking in general. Spread the word :)

CoWorking News joins about 300 economists in their support of Occupy Wall Street

In line with our “Waste becomes Resource” Campaign we like to give our support to the following statement of currently about 300 economists: ” We are economists who oppose ideological cleansing in the economics profession. Equally we oppose political cleansing in the vital debate over the causes and consequences of our current economic crisis.” “We support the efforts of the Occupy Wall Street movement across the country and across the globe to liberate the economy from the short-term greed of the rich and powerful one percent.” “We oppose cynical and perverse attempts to misuse our police officers and public servants to expel advocates of the public good from our public spaces.” “We extend our support to the vision of building an economy that works for the people, for the planet, and for the future, and we declare our solidarity with the Occupiers who are exercising our democratic right to demand economic and social justice.”

In July 2010, we were fascinated by the project “Plastiki“. A boat made out of 12,500 plastic bottles to make a change. The idea was to draw the attention to the plastic waste in our oceans. The project received wide attention ( Oprah, NYTimes etc.) and represents a benchmark in terms of creativity, team spirit and publicity factor for a good cause. This week we found the story of the “Philippine solar light bottles that offer hope“. A concept originally credited to the Brazilian Alfredo Moser.

The MyShelter Foundation in the Philippines has even gone one step further to build schools out of plastic bottles and to light them with Alfredo Moser´s idea.

They have also started a competition called “Design against the elements: “Design Against the Elements is a global architectural design competition meant to find a solution to the problems presented by climate change. Spurred by the devastation wreaked in the Philippines by tropical storm Ondoy (Ketsana) and driven by a powerhouse multidisciplinary group of organizations from the private, institutional, and government sectors, the project aims to draw together the most innovative minds in the fields of architecture, design, and urban planning to develop sustainable and disaster-resistant housing for communities in tropical urban settings.”

Update CoWorking Starter in Deutschland (Total aktuell: 28)

Die Gründung eines Coworking Spaces ist kein Selbstläufer, wie die Projekte Arbeitskommune (Berlin) und Cobüro (Freiburg) jetzt festgestellt haben. Die Projekte werden folglich nicht mehr im CoWorking Starter gelistet. Ich finde es wichtig, dass sie es versucht haben und möchte jeden ermuntern auf Basis aller Gründungserfahrungen (erfolgreich/nicht erfolgreich) eine eigene Gründung in Betracht zu ziehen. Den Sprung ins CoWorking Verzeichnis schafft dafür in den nächsten Tagen Coworking Wuppertal (auch ein CoWorking Starter), die am 1. Dezember 2011 eröffnen (siehe auch Open International CoWorking Calendar). Herzlichen Glückwunsch dazu!!!

Trends in der Berichterstattung über Coworking in Deutschland und den USA

Die Berichterstattung ist in diesem Fall, Deutschland (Otto zieht es ins Betahaus, Spiegel Online bzw. Manager Magazin), wie so häufig, etwas distanziert. Man spürt, hier trifft eine etablierte Kultur auf etwas, was sie noch nicht greifen kann. Anders, als die Firma Regus, in den USA, mit ihrer Pressemitteilung vom 7. November 2011, wie der Artikel von Small Business Labs fundiert erläutert. Hier macht man sich einfach “das Neue” zu eigen, um selbst “Neu” zu erscheinen. Meiner Meinung nach ist Coworking jedoch weder hier, noch dort, im Mainstream wirklich angekommen. Dies hat weniger mit der Berichterstattung zu tun, die in den USA vielleicht grundsätzlich etwas offener und optimistischer ist, als bei uns. Vielmehr sind die Produkte und Dienstleistungen der Coworker für den Mainstream bisher nicht sichtbar. Zum anderen ist von Bedeutung, wie der Spiegel Online Artikel zurecht erwähnt, inwieweit sich die etablierten Firmen für diese neue Arbeitswelt öffnen werden. Vieles bewegt sich schon, und ich nehme an, dass wir schon bald noch mehr Konkretes sehen werden.

Revival des Coworking Business Lunch in München

Eine Münchner Coworking Institution lebt wieder auf: Der Coworking Business Lunch. Nachdem 2010 sieben sehr kurzweilige und produktive Lunches im Zoozies stattfanden, geht der Business Lunch 2011 in die zweite Runde. Auftakt ist am Mittwoch, den 30. November 2011, natürlich wieder im Zoozies. Neben der Geschäftsanbahnung, soll diesmal tatsächlich der private Aspekt im Vordergrund stehen. Ein klassisches Powerdating (6 Frauen, 6 Männer) zur Team- und vielleicht auch Pärchenbildung :-) Who knows. Massimo Carraro hat Coworking einmal “Organized Promiscuity” genannt. Schaun mer mal…, was die Münchner daraus machen ;-)

Das Deutsche CoWorking Verzeichnis freut sich über den 63. Eintrag: “raumteiler” in Mannheim. Ab sofort gibt es dort auf 460 Quadratmetern noch 20 helle Büroarbeitsplätze zu vergeben. Der Besprechungsraum und die voll eingerichtete Küche können von allen „Mitteilern“ genutzt werden.

Deutsches CoWorking Verzeichnis zum 14. Oktober 2011 aktualisiert (Neu:5, Total:62)

Vor dem Treffen der deutschen Coworking Initiativen und Spaces morgen in Nürnberg freuen wir uns melden zu können, dass das deutsche CoWorking Verzeichnis wieder um 8% oder 5 Coworking Spaces gewachsen ist. Zu den bereits besprochenen Spaces in Aachen, Saarbrücken und Zwickau, kommen jetzt noch Bremen und Fulda dazu. Mit Fulda, dass erst Anfang November eröffnet (die Bauarbeiten dauern noch an), freuen wir uns besonders, da auch hier wieder ein Projekt aus den CoWorking Startern den Sprung ins deutsche CoWorking Verzeichnis geschafft hat. Das CoWorking Verzeichnis listet damit jetzt 62 Spaces. Das European CoWorking Directory damit 187.

Manchmal dauert es 2 Jahre! Coworking Saarbrücken eröffnet am Freitag

Als Jochen Breuer am 5. Oktober 2009 nach Meiningen zum Treffen der deutschen Coworking Initiativen reiste, hätte er sicher nicht geglaubt, dass es noch 2 Jahre dauern würde bis er mit seinen Mitstreitern den geplanten Coworking Space in Saarbrücken eröffnen würde. Jetzt ist es soweit. Am Freitag, den 14. Oktober 2011 steigt das Eröffnungsjelly (siehe auch “Open International CoWorking Calendar“). Herzlichen Glückwunsch dazu!!! Die ersten Bilder sind auf der Facebook Seite zu bewundern. Wer selber einen Coworking Space eröffnen möchte, sollte sich vielleicht überlegen Kontakt zu Jochen aufzunehmen, oder wie er damals, zum Treffen der deutschen Coworking Initiativen und Spaces am Samstag nach Nürnberg zu fahren. Coworking braucht Ausdauer, eine klare Vision und manchmal auch etwas Inspiration von Außen.
