“Free Coworking” Group sets 15.000.000 € Social Capital as first target

On day two, of the “Free Coworking” Campaign, the Group has already doubled in size. If we could double the size of the group every day now, we would reach our first target in 14 days!!! Spread the word, join the group!!! Many of you might ask themselves what we might do with all this Social Capital? For one, we could “put” ;-) it into a “Timebank” (see Mira Luna´s article on Shareable) or we put it to work for the growth of Coworking and Coworking Infrastructure. “Waste becomes Resource” Campaign on CoWorking News: Electronic Equipment

The idea is very simple “Sell or Recycle Your Electronics Today”. What is closest to most coworkers, their electronic equipment. We from CoWorking News believe that this is an excellent idea. If you know any other companies involved in that kind of work, please post. Another way of “Recycling” close to christmas is of course giving it to someone else who can use it. There are many NGOs and local organizations who are very happy to distribute your old equipment to new users. Check them out and please post them here. Together we can make a change.

AOL reaches out for start-ups and coworkers

Who is influencing who? In January we asked ourselves whether companies like Foursquare and Groupon (or for that argument Google and Facebook) could influence and shape a company culture within a coworking space. Obviously the process could also work the other way round. AOL is now hosting start-ups, coworkers and students at Palo Alto. According to Jefferson Graham, USA Today, “Across the street from Stanford University, AOL’s West Coast campus is a technology facilitator. AOL occupies only about one-third of the new space….The goal is to draw creative, entrepreneurial energy from the start-ups, AOL says, by working with them on various projects. In return, young entrepreneurs benefit from being housed alongside the likes of AOL, Disney and other start-ups.”

As AOL has been struggling to change its core business model, drawing talent and new ideas is certainly the right move. But this change is also beneficial for start-ups and coworkers. The architecture and layout of AOL´s West Coast Campus shows that it is not only about the talent but also about the way the talent works. By adopting a more flexible and open set up, coworkers will find an “eco-system” much to their liking. For example people “are encouraged to draw on the walls, play pool and ping-pong, and come to work whenever they like”. There is still some reservation whether this “new alliance” can work successfully, but there is nothing to be lost. AOL´s new campus can only benefit from this “coworking” of small and big companies!!!

Verkehrte Coworking Welt in Fulda

Jeder Coworking Space Initiator träumt davon. Einen Eigentümer zu gewinnen, der zum Aufbau des Spaces Flächen zur Verfügung stellt. Dann heißt es nur noch einziehen… In Fulda gibt es so einen Eigentümer und eine Immobilie, aber noch kein Aufbau-Team. Stefan Probst, Coworking Mitinitiator in Nürnberg, möchte helfen, dass Coworking Fulda Realität wird. Also Mitstreiter und Coworking Interessierte in Fulda bitte bei Stefan melden! CoOrpheum Projekt Dresden verliert Coworking Space an Werbeagentur

Kaum hatte das CoOrpheum geöffnet (wir berichteten), da mußte es auch schon wieder schließen. Wie dem Artikel des WochenKurier (Dresden) zu entnehmen ist, mußte das Projekt schon einen Tag nach Eröffnung folgendes erleben: “Einen Tag nach unserer öffentlichen Präsentation kam ein zahlungskräftiger Mietinteressent und machte unserem Vermieter ein besseres Angebot”. Das Dresdener Coworking Projekt gibt jedoch nicht auf: “Es wird weitergehen!” Die CoWorking News halten Euch auf dem Laufenden.

“Raumstipendium” für Coworker – geförderte Arbeitsplätze für soziale Unternehmer

Der Coworking Space “Raumstation” in Berlin lädt soziale Unternehmer ein sich auf zwei bis zu 4 Monate lange Stipendien zu bewerben. Inhalt der Förderung: Arbeitsplatz für 50€ pro Monat (statt sonst über 200€). Bewerbungen bis zum 14. Januar 2011 bitte an empfang@raumstation-berlin.net . Ich wünsche dem Projekt viel Erfolg!!! Vielleicht findet die Idee auch in anderen Spaces ein Zuhause ;-)

“Kitchen-for-rent”: Coworking for cooks & gastronomy start-ups

This excellent New York Times article was discovered by coINLoftDe. The article shows how important coworking can be for all professions, in this case for cooks and “culinary entrepreneurs”. One of the users of Entrepreneur’s Space, on 37th Street near Northern Boulevard, New York says: “There are a lot of career-changers here, a lot of casual gourmets who channelled their energies into cooking as a way to make money.” I think this is great and I hope that many similar offers will open up soon. Seth Bornstein, executive director of the Queens Economic Development Corporation, which invested $100,000 in the venture, describes the kitchen as “a laboratory in taking chances.”

Startup Finnovations wird Mit-Sponsor der CoWorking News

Das von Mikko Mannila geführte Unternehmen Finnovations macht sich stark für die deutsche Coworking Bewegung durch das Sponsoring der CoWorking News. Wir freuen uns besonders über diesen Schritt, da das bisher bekannteste Produkt von Finnovations, IdeaMEMO, besonders gut das mobile und kreative Arbeiten unterstützt. Wie gut IdeaMEMO zu Coworking paßt zeigt das kurze Video (22 Sek.) von Coworking Cologne – Gasmotorenfabrik.

Innovationen sind auf den ersten Blick nicht immer leicht zu erkennen und wer noch vor keiner Pinnwand stand und damit beschäftigt war Moderationskarten mühsam zu Clustern zusammenzustellen, wird den Spass der beiden Coworker im Video kaum nachvollziehen können.
